H.R2day Limited and MN Consultancy have teamed up to support the NHS Foundation’s Trust Charity (CDDFT Charity) of County Durham and Darlington by sponsoring a project to support children receiving outpatient care in hospitals in County Durham and Darlington.

The two companies donated nearly £ 3,500 to the charity to help bring the project to life and receive feedback that will demonstrate the quality of care, patient experience and improved services for children and adolescents, including those with special educational needs and Disability, is used. The CAISY robot is designed to help children and adolescents give feedback on their treatment and care in a fun and engaging way so that employees can see what is working.
The robot will also use an app that will allow children to continue providing feedback through CAISY even if they are unable to go to the hospital due to lock restrictions.

CDDFT worked with a group of children and youth from Investing in Children Durham (IIC) who helped with the initial design and specification process for CAISY. For this reason a prototype of the first stage was developed with students from Teesside University School of Science, Technology and Design.

With the funds provided by the company, the CAISY prototype will be delivered to the hospitals within these seven months.

Nicky Jolley, Founder and Managing Director of HR2day, said: “Many local charities have been hit extremely hard by COVID-19, especially as people affected by the lockdown and loss of jobs have fewer opportunities to donate.

“CDDFT Charity is a fantastic thing and the CAISY project is so innovative that we were delighted to do whatever we can to help.”

Mark Jolley, Managing Director and Independent Financial Advisor at MN Consultancy, said, “When we heard that the CDDFT Charity needed support to bring CAISY to life and help children and adolescents provide their feedback on their care and treatment, we jumped on the chance to help.

“Community is more important than ever right now, and we need to help each other if we can.”

Pat Chambers, Charity Development Manager at CDDFT Charity said, “This is a great project and we were really humble when Nicky and Mark agreed to fund the CAISY prototype for use in our hospitals without hesitation.

“In these toughest times, it’s fabulous to see research and innovation create new solutions, and most importantly, to see local businesses inspired to make sure that vision becomes a reality.

“We can’t thank you both enough – very grateful and can’t wait to invite you to our hospital to see the reality!”

Dr. Kirsty Yates, Community Lead Clinical and Developmental Pediatrics, said, “I want to thank the investors for supporting this project! This means that children and adolescents have the opportunity to share their views on the hospital care they receive in a fun and interactive way. Feedback from children and adolescents is so important to improve services and ensure care that is tailored to our patients’ needs. “
