Asda is looking for 500 employees for its depots and 1,500 for home deliveries during the holidays. The supermarket found that most of the temporary jobs would be in its stores.

Recent figures show that the number of job vacancies in the UK has risen to over a million in the three months up to August. Data from the Bureau of National Statistics showed that there were 83,000 job vacancies in retailing alone during that period.

Companies like Amazon, the online retail giant, offer one-time bonuses of up to £ 3,000 to attract employees for Christmas. The company is looking for 20,000 employees across its UK network. They also started a huge recruiting campaign for a new project in September.

Domino’s Pizza also recently announced it would hire 8,000 drivers in the UK and Ireland.

An Asda spokesman said the supermarket is confident it will find people to take on the temporary jobs. He said the number of 15,000 was “comparable to the number we hired in previous years”. He added that Asda expects both students and people with children to apply for the positions, as many of the jobs have flexible hours.

Last month, the UK Chambers of Commerce announced that Brexit and Covid had led to a profound decline in the labor supply, adding that the UK was facing an “acute recruitment crisis”.

In the run-up to Christmas there seems to have been more and more brands and companies that offer entry-level bonuses and offer many different positions. Asda’s announcement that it will hire 15,000 is a great contribution and should help give jobs to people laid off or otherwise suffered due to the recent pandemic.
