Accenture acquires change administration consultancy Future State

Accenture takes over the change management consultancy Future State

Accenture has acquired Future State, an Oakland, CA-based provider of change management and business transformation consulting services.

Founded in 1982, Future State helps technology, life science and CPG companies navigate organizational change such as technology takeover, business growth and post-merger integration. The company’s team of experienced planners, communicators and coaches in Oakland is very familiar with leading methods and best practices, including Agile, Lean, Six Sigma, design thinking and human-centered design.

Future State focuses on the human side of change efforts, helping companies create the culture and processes that enable successful transformation. The company’s offering includes project and change management, process excellence, organizational effectiveness, learning and development, communication and technology support, among others.

Future State’s approximately 100 consultants support top-class clients such as Adobe, Roche, Genentech and Ericsson.

Accenture’s acquisition of Future State will strengthen the talent and organization / potential of the technology consulting firm.

“As the ongoing health, economic and social crises have demonstrated, disruption is constant and companies need to adapt to thrive and grow,” said Eva Sage-Gavin, global executive for Talent & Organization / Human Potential Practice. “By adding Future State’s experience and talent, Accenture expands its capabilities to assist clients in their business transformation journeys through a rapidly changing world.”

A change management practice is a useful cross-sell proposition for Accenture, which is often working on massive technological overhauls at large companies.

The company expanded its organizational consulting capability last year through Kates Kesler, a New York-based organizational design consultancy. The move added around a dozen employees.

“By joining Accenture, we can scale our value proposition by unlocking the unique talents of our design thinkers and design-makers to help more customers pursue their extraordinary visions that will have a positive impact on the world,” said Shannon Adkins, CEO of Future State.

Accenture recently added 1,350 Imaginea IT professionals to its cloud consulting department.
